When you get to Open Water certification level, you can dive up to 18 meters (60 feet). ### Managing Fear and Staying Calm

4. What should you not do before scuba diving?

Avoid alcohol, as it affects your judgment. Do not eat heavy, greasy, or spicy meals right before your dive. Get plenty of sleep, and do not dive if you are sick, very tired, or congested.

5. What is the 120 rule for scuba diving?

This is a basic safety guide. It suggests that your deepest depth in feet plus your bottom time in minutes should be 120 or less. For example, if you dive to 60 feet, your time should be 60 minutes or less. This helps you manage time and lowers the risk of decompression sickness. Always follow your scuba instructor’s specific plans.

6. How can I stop being scared of scuba diving?

It is normal to feel nervous. Start with a "Try Scuba" session. That is why at The Scuba Duka Diving Center a scuba instructor train you in a pool. This lets you get comfortable with the gear and breathing at your own pace. Talk to your scuba instructor about your fears. When you understand how the gear works, you will feel much more relaxed.

7. How can you stay calm before scuba diving?

Focus on your breathing by taking slow, deep breaths. Talk to your instructor about any worries. Relax your shoulders and jaw, and remember that your instructor is there to support you and always by your side.

8. How can you deal with scuba diving fear?

Face your fear step by step. At The Scuba Duka Diving Centre we first get you familiarized with your equipment. Then we take you to a controlled enviroment at one of the pools at Soul Breesze Resort Hotel. This knowlege of your equipment and practicing in a pool builds confidence. At all times during your session you are with a highly trained scuba instructor.

9. Is it normal to feel nervous before scuba diving?

Yes, it is very common, even for experienced divers. Being a little nervous shows that you take safety seriously. Most divers feel happy once they are underwater.

10. Is scuba diving hard or stressful?

It is not hard, but you do need to learn some basic skills. With good training, it becomes very peaceful. It is about floating and observing, not fighting the water. If you feel stressed, move slowly and remember your scuba instructor is always there to help.

11. Is scuba diving good for your mind and feelings?

Yes. Many divers find it very relaxing. Focusing on your breath and the quiet world underwater helps lower stress and improves your mood.

12. What health problems can stop you from scuba diving?

Conditions that affect your lungs, heart, or ears can be a concern because of pressure changes. This includes severe asthma, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or lung disease. Always check with a doctor if you have any long-term health issues.

13. Who should not go scuba diving?

People with severe heart or lung conditions must get a doctor's approval first. Pregnant women should not dive. People with a bad cold, ear infection, or those who cannot swim well should also wait until they are better or trained.

14. What foods should you avoid before scuba diving?

Avoid heavy, fatty, greasy, or spicy foods. Stay away from foods that cause gas, like beans or fizzy drinks. Stick to light meals and drink plenty of water.

15. Can I fly after scuba diving?

You must wait. A general rule is to wait at least 12 hours after a single dive and 18 to 24 hours after multiple dives. This prevents decompression sickness.

16. Why should you not take a hot shower before scuba diving?

It is actually better to avoid very hot showers right after you dive. Hot water can make your blood vessels expand too fast, which might increase the risk of nitrogen bubbles in your body. Wait about 20 to 30 minutes after your dive before taking a warm or cool shower.

17. Can people over 50 do scuba diving?

Yes, absolutely. Age is not a barrier if you are in good health and feel comfortable in the water. Many people enjoy diving well into their 60s and beyond.

18. What age do people stop scuba diving?

There is no set age limit. If you are healthy, fit, and follow safety rules, you can keep diving for as long as you enjoy it.

19. Is scuba diving good for your heart?

It is a good form of light exercise, but it can put extra strain on your heart due to the environment. If you have heart concerns, you must get a doctor’s approval.

20. Can people with high blood pressure go scuba diving?

It depends on how well your condition is managed. If it is stable, you can often dive safely. You must talk to your doctor and get medical clearance before you book.

21. Can people with thyroid problems do scuba diving?

Usually yes, if the condition is stable and well-managed. Because thyroid issues can affect your heart rate and energy, check with your doctor first.

22. Can people with rheumatoid arthritis do scuba diving?

Often, yes. Many people find that water supports their weight, which can be easy on the joints. If your condition affects your movement, ensure you have help with your gear and feel comfortable getting in and out of the water. Talk to your doctor to see if it is safe for you.
